Austins denver
The first person to help us was Jack, who was working at the counter. He explained how the inside stock is laid out and where we would go to find help with the stock out in the warehouse. When we ventured to the warehouse we were greeted by Rick who took us under his wing and showed us around. He offered to do a lumber pull for us so we would have more boards to look through and explained the entire process to us.
At one point when I needed to call my husband and explain what options we had available to us, Rick politely excused himself to give me privacy, but stayed close enough to us to answer any additional questions I had. When I told Rick I needed to think about it some more he was very supportive of me taking my time and told me to just ask for him when I returned, but that all the employees would be equally helpful if he was not available.
Both cities are neighborly, with a strong food-and-drink culture and family-friendly amenities. Due to their popularity, they are also facing similar housing challenges. But there are some key differences. Ivy thinks Denver has better weather—temperate, yet seasonal—and a more robust transit system, where Austin wins on live music and diversity.
Ariel Hernandez is moving to Denver work his new job. Ariel Hernandez. The Houston-born resident will miss his family, friends and Whataburger.
But he's excited about the change. First, a little about Perkins. She's the former executive director of TreeFolks, an Austin nonprofit dedicated to planting trees in urban and rural areas. She left that job in without knowing that a year later, she would be running a pod school for the neighborhood kids. Her children are 11 and Reverie Books in South Austin has a reading area and a children's area. Addie Broyles.
Perkins has a masters degree in forestry and grew up in the "middle of nowhere Louisiana. She eventually went back to school and became a university instructor and researcher, focusing first on swamplands and then on watersheds. After working in environmental regulation at a water treatment plant in Austin, Perkins became the executive director of TreeFolks in During all these life and career changes, Perkins was making an annual pilgrimage to the Kerrville Folk Festival.
It used to be where you'd show up with your CD, and they'd put you on staff. Reverie Books sells a variety of notebooks, notecards, stickers, magnets and other items that aren't books, but most of the store is dedicated to books.
That's where she met David Schunck, a Vietnam war vet turned "peace-loving hippie" who ran Good Buy Books for decades. A year-old Vietnam vet and a something lesbian, it turns out they have quite a lot to say to each other.
They are both songwriters who see books as a way of building community. Schunck still has some shelves of used books in the back of the store, and the rest of the shelves are filled with contemporary and classic books, zines and non-traditional titles, puzzles, a few well-curated toys, notecards, magnets and other gifts. And it's working. A customer left this note in Perkins' suggestion box.
Perkins reaches over to the wall by her computer to peel off a handwritten note on a blue notecard. I feel seen, heard and represented," the patron wrote. She keeps this reminder by her desk so she can remember why she opened the store in the first place. It's not nothing," she says. Austin Escrow and Title. Demetrius Austin Photography. Austin John. Website Services. OPEN 24 Hours. Austin Exploration. Pros: "I reached y destination. Cons: "One flight attendant yelled at me for switching seats, even though I had asked permission to move seats.
Another flight attendant clumsily kicked me when leaning over to serve another passenger. After living in Japan, it's pretty rough to see the low bar of American customer service.
Pros: "The crew was great and the free entertainment was great". Cons: "Bring back pillows and blankets especially on red eyes out of Anchorage". Cons: "Boarding was very slow and exiting the plane was also slower than normal. An overhead bin was locked and that delayed passengers".
Cons: "Flight was delayed and completely packed so our family could not get seats together". Pros: "Love the fact that the head rests move to support your head better. Pros: "The male crew member was excellent. He was responsive and speedy with trying to find a solution. He gave me a few flyer miles for my trouble and was empathetic, which is rare. Pros: "Boarding was easy. Cons: "I am 6' 1" tall and weigh , so not out of the ordinary and I felt like I was stuffed into a sardine can.
Pros: "Actual flight". Cons: "Could have done without the almost 5 hour delay and no good options for alternative flights. Pros: "Not comfortable a little but scary on the flight to Detroit. Way better coming back to Denver". Cons: "Boarding was disorganized. Snack mix tasted plain. Pros: "Getting offered a stipend to change flights - getting my preferred rental car". Cons: "A direct flight". Cons: "Better screens for in-flight movies.
More legroom or upgrade options. Cons: "Seat didnt recline and very tight between passenger seats". Pros: "Boarding was quick". Cons: "No entertainment, plane was small". Cons: "First delay notification: 1 hour 20 minutes 1 hour later, Second delay notification: 3 hours 15 minutes 2 hours later: Third delay notification: 3 hour 50 minutes Fourth delay notification: 4 hours 25 minutes Fifth delay notification: 4 hour 32 minutes No explanation for reason.
Last time flying Delta. Pros: "Early and middle seat was open! Cons: "Coffee tasted like fish. Pros: "Good landing, great service. Pros: "Entertainment choices were excellent, many new movies available, so I was able to see movies is been meaning to watch. There were drinks available. Cons: "The air vents barely trickle out any air anymore. No relief to be had. Airline crews say hi and goodbye but that doesn't make them friendly.
Pros: "We boarded close to on time, no hassles. Allowed my husband and me retired military to board early, thank you. Cons: "LAX security is awful. Had to remove shoes, was scanned and "frisked" by TSA to get to Denver. Where's the uniformity or standards for TSA?? Why did I have to be subjected to this garbage on the way home?? This is why I despise flying. It makes no sense to me. This ruined what was a great vacation. Pros: "Not much. Boarding by "zone" works ok, but is no quicker than most other boarding methods.
The entertainment system was so old that there were no v outlets or USB ports. On a 7-hour flight, that is a significant problem for travellers today with multiple electronic devices. So, the 6-hour layover at JFK was a complete waste of our time as we did not have to go through Customs there.
Cons: "Flight was delayed with no explanation, The crew sprayed me twice with the fizz from opening soda cans with no apology. Pros: "love that each seat now has a USB connection to charge your phone". Cons: "headphone jack to watch movies shorted in and out constantly". Pros: "Nice flight nice crew just about as good as you would want". Pros: "It got me home, eventually. Cons: "Poor communication, a 6 hour delay followed by a 7 hour layover during which we had to sleep on an airport floor because Delta couldn't offer us any hotel vouchers.
Gate agents disappeared after 7pm becuase they were due to be done with their shifts when our flight was originally supposed to leave at 6 pm. It felt like we were trapped in the movie The Terminal. And our bag was misrouted, because that was just how things went those 2 days. All in all a 6 hour trip turned into 18 hours. I could have driven home in that amount of time! Cons: "My daughter was stuck in SLC for 5 hours because there 1 cancelled flight and 1 delayed flight.
It was very upsetting not knowing when she going to arrive in Denver. Pros: "App is good and convenient to use. Cons: "The app went down just as we were getting ready to board and luckily i had a printed pass and it took some extra time to check in. Pros: "Fast flight great service". Cons: "I don't like that I already completed this survey several days ago and have been receiving reminders to do so.
I guess you don't have a good system in place for knowing who has and has not completed your surveys. That's too bad.
Pros: "Crew was all very nice". Cons: "Flying is always uncomfortable". Pros: "When deplaning in Denver, I was impressed that the captain was the staff who got behind my wheelchair and offered to push me up the walkway New aircraft, kind staff, shorty flight!
Cons: "Nothing disappointed, butt i didn't have any good besides pretzels. Pros: "Avg flight". Cons: "They changed my seat to a worse one without any explanation.
I picked my seats on line for a reason and dont like them changed. Pros: "Free in flight entertainment". Cons: "One of my bags went to Santa Fe". Pros: "Entertainment". Cons: "This is my third flight this year with Delta and every time we wait for the "crew" to get off from another flight. And as soon as they get there we can board.
It's getting very annoying. Fix it. Pros: "The crew was fine". Cons: "No open seats at all. Old cramped A". Pros: "It got me on the way".
Cons: "An outlet and letting me get into Canada". Cons: "More comfortable seats. More distance between passengers. Cons: "The boarding and social distancing being funny with the process". Pros: "Everything". Pros: "Very good and safe". Cons: "Everything was great". Pros: "Got me there". Pros: "Clean aircraft helpful staff". Cons: "Smelled like pee for half time we were up and announcer was very annoying , she sounded like she is about to pass out , short of breath like she needs an ambulance.
Statement about wearing masks was just too much Pros: "I liked my seat". Cons: "There was a stewardess that was very mean and not accommodating when I asked for a mask". Pros: "Very organized and helpful. I felt safe. Cons: "Different types of snack. Nothing serious to complain about. Pros: "The other people flying next to me". Cons: "The stews attitude". Pros: "Yes". Pros: "The crew was nice.
When I finally arrived in Denver, Marlin in customer service was the only saving grace for United for me. Marlin provided excellent customer service and was a huge credit to the company. I would estimate at least people missed connecting flights because of the delay. According to the United app, the delay initially started in Portland due to mechanical issues, which took over 3 hours. Then, there was a weather delay in San Francisco according to the gate agent - there was a ground hold and no planes were landing or flying out.
At some point, I would think another plane would have been an option rather than delaying a flight for this long and disrupting holiday travel for so many people. Pros: "I liked the free in ight movies which makes a 5 hr plane ride a a lot more enjoyable. Having 2 rounds of free beverages was also what I liked.
Cons: "What could have been better especially on a 5hr flight to Honolulu would be free wifi, free meals, if not free meals then 2 rounds of snacks, and I know it's out of the airlines control, but families with their screaming babies who's parents leave the tray down to keep their toddler entertained so she could kick it up and down through out the flight.
I feel the airlines should place families with babies and toddlers together on a portion of the plane. Pros: "The counter staff employee was kind enough to find seats next to one another for my partner and I.
Cons: "More snack options. Pros: "Was able to get an Economy Plus seat, which is nice - great legroom for an almost 6' tall person and power plug is very handy. Regular distributions of water was very helpful since I wasn't able to fill up my bottle before getting on the flight. Cons: "Not a great amount of food available, and one of the larger cabin crew members kept brushing my arm as she walked past, which didn't help me get any sleep.
Pros: "For all the turbulence that we heard about, the flight was extremely smooth which I attribute to the pilot's skills". There was also a delay in leaving as there was an extra bag in hold but they 'couldn't find it'.
Pros: "Crew was pleasant and just plain awesome. Boarding process at Austin was very good. Flight was about 25 minutes early into Denver. Cons: "Denver airport with all the construction is pretty disappointing. Hard to navigate. They need to hire someone to come up with easier way finders for people to see. Long term and all the public and private companies offering service and to me not one of them does it well.
Pros: "We were upgraded to 1st. Ontime departure and arrival. Pros: "Over all flight was good.. Cons: "Our plane was delayed 4 hours.. I waited at the Austin Airport all day before boarding plane coming from the Atlanta airport due to the outage..
I had missed my original flight and was bumped to a later flight which turned into waiting 8 hours to board.. Pros: "For the first time I did not fly on a puddle jumper. Not only was it a real jet, it had good seat comfort and leg room even in economy class. The crew was friendly and attentive.
The coffee has improved which is a plus. Overall, good job, United! Nice not to be jammed in like sardines for once. Cons: "Every time I fly to Denver, we land in one terminal and your connection is in another terminal that requires a train ride to get there. I was the lucky exception — this aircraft was actually the connecting flight too. It makes no sense. Pros: "The cabin crew weren't charging people for alcohol on the flight". Cons: "On checking in we had to use a machine to print our boarding passes and take our bags to a bag drop in Newark.
The man proceeded to put a large tray on the conveyor belt, swing our bags in the air then smash them down into the tray. This was done to both bags as if we weren't there. Had there been something expensive in there it would have been totally destroyed. He really couldn't have cared less about our bags and their contents. We were talking to a woman on the plane who was telling us that a woman a few rows behind who had a new born baby as was told she would be given a seat with extra legroom had this taken away from her to United could sell the seat to someone paying for it.
The chicken and orzo dinner was absolutely revolting. The orzo was so over cooked that it just turned to mush and the chicken really didn't taste like it had ever seen a chicken. Sorry I cant be more complementary than that, its just the truth.
Cons: "Seats to small. But I am 6'3"" and my son traveling with me is 6'5". Pros: "Aside from the turbulence the ride was fine. Cons: "We got stuck for an hour on the tarmac in Denver, completely ruining the transfer process and I got stuck overnight in Denver. Pros: "I like that since the fight wasn't full, and I didn't know until after I bought my ticket on kayak that I couldn't change seats. The crew allowed me and my friend to sit together. Cons: "That the window seat armrest doesn't raise to allow more room that's available.
Pros: "Prompt departure". Cons: "The weather in denver". Pros: "It was dope. Pros: "Amazing staff Even brought out pilot wings for all the nervous kiddos Pros: "4 hours 40 mins delay. Pros: "On time". Pros: "Small plane". Cons: "Air con too cold. Freezing inside the plane". Pros: "Drinks and snacks were good. Flight was on time. Cons: "Flight crew was a little noisy. Pros: "Not as delayed as the other United flights. Could have been worse! Cons: "Gate changed since earlier flight scheduled to depart at for San Francisco was still waiting on their plane while we were ready to board at Told to go to a different gate.
That gate was for Denver but an earlier flight, too. Finally the third gate change was for the correct flight number. Lack of good communication left us and many others scrambling to find where to go. Cons: "Had to deboard after an hour on the plane. Waited another hour for next flight.
Cons: "Our flight departure time was changed and no one contacted us. Cons: "Unable to pre-check online. Unable to check at the check in machines--had to go up and check in at the counter, long wait because there was only one clerk.
We were then given a ticket just to get through security and had to check in a second time when we get to the gate for seat assignment, which is ridiculous. Why couldn't that be done at the 1st check-in? At the last moment minutes, volunteers could check in their carry on for free It would have been nice and less hassle to have that option at the 1st check-in.
Pros: "Once flight began it ran quite smooth". Cons: "I chose seats when I booked the tickets. Not quite sure how both myself and my partner didn't end up seated together, and both ended up in a middle seat sandwiched between 2 overweight people Are you little people profiling to break up the overwhelming number of big people? I know everyone complains about so many things, and this wasn't the end of the world, but still, it's not ideal. Pros: "Had a window seat that allowed me to sleep".
Pros: "Telling everyone not to fly United. Thank God United employs competent crew for their planes, please consider doing the same at corporate.
Cons: "Being treated like cattle. Terrible customer service. Not feeding or providing accommodations for the elderly, children, families, and all passengers- regardless of lying about mechanical issues. Cons: "Return trip had small planes". Pros: "The staff was very helpful". Cons: "Turbulence was horrid. Had to re route the landing causing me to miss my connecting flight. Therefore I chose to return to my starting destination. I still had to spend the night at the airport, and missed a 10 hour day of work due to no other flight options.
