Sei washington dc reviews
Incredibly fresh high quality sushi—which is the only thing that really matters at a sushi restaurant. Hearty miso soup with lots of mushrooms and tofu was a great twist on the more usual higher broth content. Excellent service when engaged, but at times somewhat inattentive to whether something was needed like a drink refill. Terrific food, service, ambiance and reasonable price! Small portions for the price.
SEI was one of our favorite Pen Quarter restaurants; waiters always super attentive, food expertly prepared and impeccable. Something has happened, and the experience we had was absolutely not memorable. Perhaps because of the holiday, the staffing was not up to par, and the chef was off enjoying Memorial Day elsewhere. But to those who wanted to enjoy the traditionally excellent SEI cuisine, there was disappointment to go around.. I hope this was a one-off hiccup. The menu is a collection of Japanese, Korean, and Mexican food.
Fusion but not a lot of innovation. Beef bibimbap was bland. Great dinner. I had the kale salad the only place I eat kale, suchi, and sea bass. My friend also had a rice bowl. Everything was great as were the refreshing watermelon and strawberry drinks. I thought it was really loud in the full dining room at lunch. I would prefer better sound absorption and a slightly quieter atmosphere.
I thought the service was spectacular though so one might almost be able to disregard the noise level. They have lost their liquor license, which was a bit disappointing because they have a great cocktail menu. Excellent service and attention to detail with an inventive menu.
They were very good with the need for gluten free selections, having a complete gf menu as well as information on whether other items from the full menu could be adapted to be gf.
What a surprise to learn, after we were seated, that SEI did not have its liquor license so could not serve alcoholic beverages. Because we had theater tickets, we stayed, not wanting to risk missing dinner. It would have been better customer service if we had been informed before we made our reservation. Exceptional service and cuisine. The staff went to great lengths to accommodate my specific seating requests. The tables are well spaced, the noise level is perfectly reasonable, the staff are attentive but not intrusive, and the specialty sushi rolls are unforgettable.
Spent 2. SEI is a great choice for a business lunch. The food is quite good the Bento box choices at lunch are a nice value and the service is attentive and prompt. Plus, you can actually carry on a conversation around the table.
There are a lot of interesting dishes on the menu. We enjoyed sushi, nigiri, and tuna poke, and a chocolate mousse pancake dessert.
For some reason the restaurant was not serving alcohol that evening. Interesting variations on tradition sushi. Convenient to theater. SEI is a wonderful restaurant and lounge. Our waiter, Alexis, was superb and suggested wine and delectable dishes, and he made the birthday celebration very special.
I highly recommend SEI to all my friends. Read the rest of the comments regarding the noise level. Too loud to have a conversation without a raised voice. Service was mediocre at best.
Had to flag down the waiter multiple times to get my water refilled. Pre-theatre dinner. Love the service. Food is gorgeous and delicious! Bonus - gluten free menu and gf soy sauce! Love it! We had a great time! Dinner before heading to the Shakespeare Langsburgh Theater to see Oslo. We walked in and were seated as I made the reservation and the host was most gracious.
Our waiter took the time to ensure we knew the specials for the day and to answer our questions about the menu. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Penn Quarter area. Very chic space! Food was great. Went during Happy Hour and they had great selections! Definitely recommend the fish and shrimp tacos. This restaurant is beautiful but too noisy!
I would not go there for any type of meeting. My guest and I were screaming to hear each other. Also, the food was a bit slow coming out. Great duck roll and Korean tacos— service was fast. Very cute inside. Crystal O. First time staying in DC and visiting this place. After going into 3 other restaurants near by that did not seem customer oriented and the atmosphere and energy was way off.
Great service from Walker with his joyful personality. The wonderful entrees such as the California Sushi Roll and the roasted vegetable rolls and such amazing drinks.
With great service and even better food I would definitely recommend and I will soon return. Walter has great customer service and makes sure you feel confirmable and pleased before leaving this place. I plan on visiting again before I leave DC.
Annie T. My sushi splurge is going to be at like, Sushi Taro or Sushi Capitol! My reservation for 12 : 30 pm proved wholly unnecessary, as the restaurant was devoid of humans, save for the waitstaff and perhaps one other table. An excellent start to the meal. And now to the sushi rolls.
I had never eaten sushi that contained bread or soy butter before. I also ordered the rather sweet S. A final highlight was the hot green tea, which came unexpectedly with a wedge of lemon that totally elevated and accentuated the matcha flavor. Monica W. I enjoyed happy hour here in the past so I felt confident about booking a reservation for lunch recently.
The restaurant is conveniently located near the Shakespeare Theatre, Verizon Center and copious downtown attractions. Our waitress was awesome and grabbed the last shrimp roll for our table. Additionally, we enjoyed the shrimp tacos and beef with leeks.
However I experienced nausea following my meal later on. I am not sure if it was due to poor food combinations, the oils used, lack of freshness and food handling procedures, or food poisoning.
I was nauseous, had a fever among other unpleasant symptoms. The nurse was certain that it was a classic case of food poisioning. I am not sure if I will go back after this last experience. Duyen N. Took my boyfriend to SEI for his birthday. And most importantly, so was the food.
We also enjoyed the Crispy Duck Leg and the foie gras. A little pricey but definitely worth visting for special occasions. Lily C. Honestly I was surprised how good the happy hour food was. Price was decent as well. Happy hour ends at 8. Asian pearl sangria and painted lady were both really good drinks! The pork buns and Kobe sliders were my fav. After happy hour ended, we ordered another round of drinks. The server recommends Zen Collins which is gin and cucumber citrus. I have to say this was my favorite drink— so refreshing!
Mariana G. SEI is probably the best sushi restaurant in the DC area. Most try: spicy tuna, and lobster roll. Zola O. Always come here when I visit Washington DC. They have the best sushi and other little dishes that are fresh and on point. Definitely worth coming in and checking it out! Amber G. SEI is run by the same owners as the now closed Oya, and you can definitely tell.
Both have really modern and trendy atmosphere, and are decorated in almost all white. Overall service was also great — attentive but not annoyingly. Only thing weird about the ambiance was that the lower half of the windows are blacked out with white paint.
