Female bassist chicago
Brooke was also featured as one of Grammy. Brooke's talent has even earned a nod from John Lennon's official Facebook page. Bella adds to the band's ferocious melodies with amazing backing vocals and no holds barred brand of uncompromising rock. She became one of the youngest competitors in the show's history to turn all four judge's chairs and the only NBC's The Voice contestant to get all four chairs performing a rock-based song.
Her performance of Heart's "Crazy on You" garnered viral fame and lauded the 4'11" star as a "pint-sized powerhouse" by judge and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. Miley Cyrus referred to as a "Rock Goddess". Moriah narrowly missed out on a spot in the top 12, being eliminated before fans had a chance to vote. From jazz to metalcore, and just about everything in between, these eight artists boldly go where few women have gone … before, now or ever!
Melissa Auf Der Maur. Melissa Auf Der Maur is a visual artist first and a bass player second. It came as an unexpected, yet appropriate surprise that her second solo album, Out of Our Minds , was released as a multimedia trifecta: a record, a comic and a film.
First, she attended a performing arts school from first grade through high school. She continued on to study fine-art photography at Concordia University in her native Montreal, Quebec. Finally, her transition from a visual artist to musician took place. Her latest album is just the cherry-on-top of her phenomenal career. Needless to say, this chick rocks! Esperanza Spalding. Jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding has a lot to brag about. Not only did she become the first jazz musician to take home the Grammy for Best New Artist in , but simultaneously stole the title from Justin Bieber!
And deservingly so! A multi-instrumentalist, Spalding played the oboe and clarinet before finally landing on the bass in high school. Her outstanding musicianship hardly went unrecognized. Shortly after graduation from Berklee College of Music, she was hired onto the faculty of her alma mater at the young age of After she took home the Grammy, the album regained its spot on the Billboard at an impressive No.
An amazing talented young lady…. Not a bad list, but the omission of Paz Lenchantin is a horrible horrible mistake. Especially given that more than one bassist on this list were simple 3-chord players, whereas Lenchantin is a virtuoso. Lyrical rock, wtf is that? This seems like a list of hard rock music groups, with Joan A thrown in.
You missed Bassis, RobinBramlett. Here is a clip. Absolutely savage bassist. In terms of taste, musicality, minimalism and originality she is way ahead of the field — a real trailblazer. Add to that the talking heads songbook and genius of love!!! And Suzi Quatro is just a bass goddess. Watching her rock out with her jazz bass well into middle age is just very inspiring to me.
Love the list, but the picture of at the top is of me, Erika Osterhout. Still an honor to be up there with all the greats. I agree about Paz and to some degree Michael Steele.
A couple of these entries seem to have barely picked up a bass. Outstanding list damn straight Gail Greenwood , but Catherine Popper is an essential player who deserved mention. The header picture of Erika Osterhout that you cropped was taken by me at Til Two and I would appreciate being credited for it. Your sister already mentioned this.
You would have been credited for this whether you commented or not. Just like the Bass Player , whenever someone tries to limit the amount of amazing talent there is in the world to a list and then rank them, that list is will never be definitive.
Just listen to Boogie Oogie Oogie and you will understandm oh and she was singing as well on that song. Michael Steele understood rhythm and melody, but she was really coming into her own as a song writer. I know someone will always be left off these lists, but Jennifer Young of the Travis Larson Band is at another level than anyone on this list, chack her out.
I do not get it. Anyone who can sing the way she did and play bass at the same time has to be good. She was one hot chick in the s. It is too bad that she let herself go!! The way she propelled the band, on record and in concert, was a thing of beauty. You missed Allison Prestwood from Nashville.
Lots of recording credits too. Doris Yeh of Taiwanese band Cthonic. She and singer Freddie Lim are the driving force behind the band. How can you leave out Patricia Morrison? Silversun Pickups would not be the same without her bass lines. Great list especially since Gail Ann Dorsey was rightfully added.
I agree with other commenters that Suzi Quatro is deeply underrated and should be much higher on this list. Also, I think that Kathy Valentine clearly belongs in the top Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. I was really surprised to not find Gail Ann Dorsey on the list too! Jep Thornton January 1, at pm. Don Adkins January 1, at pm. Agree, the list was really complete, but Gail Ann came to mind as well.
